What is a royalty leak?

A royalty leak is any gap in your metadata, registration, or collection infrastructure that causes earned income to go unmatched or uncollected. Unlike unpaid invoices, leaks are invisible — you will not receive a notification that £600 of PRS performance royalties went into the unmatched pool because your ISRC was not embedded. The money just disappears into a fund you may never be able to claim.

The 10 failure modes this tool checks

  1. ISRC embedding — codes assigned but not embedded in audio files cause unmatched streams
  2. ISWC registration — compositions without ISWCs cannot receive publishing royalties internationally
  3. DSP metadata consistency — mismatched spelling creates ghost artist profiles that split your streams
  4. Songwriter split registration — unregistered co-writer shares go uncollected by the PRO
  5. UPC coverage — missing release-level codes break platform reporting
  6. Artist profile claiming — unclaimed profiles lose editorial pitch access and fan analytics
  7. MusicBrainz listing — unlisted catalogs are invisible to metadata-dependent identification systems
  8. Duplicate distributor entries — ghost copies of releases accumulate royalties you cannot access
  9. CCLI registration — worship music performed in churches generates royalties only if you are registered
  10. Master asset folders — incomplete assets slow corrections and close off sync opportunities

How is this different from the Royalty Gap Estimator?

The Royalty Gap Estimator answers the question “how much am I missing?” — it calculates an annual £ estimate across six collection-society income sources based on your catalog size and reach.

This tool answers “where is my catalog broken?” — it diagnoses the specific infrastructure failures behind those gaps. Use both together for the full picture.
